Ecuador : Natives request to Lula that removes to Petrobras from the Yasuní Park ·
After marches, manifestations and letters given in Quito. The natives huaoranis of the Ecuadorian Amazonía today asked the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, that retires to the state Petrobras of the National Park Yasuní, one of the more important natural reserves of South America. Adorned with their typical suits done of necklace, barks, pen and carrying lances, the natives crossed several streets of Quito before arriving at the Parliament, where they requested to legislating the support to avoid the destruction of the Amazonía.
Luis Macas, president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), said to EFE that support the decision of huaoranis, which they arrived the weekend at Quito and they demand a moratorium of ten years for the oil operation in the Amazonía. On the other hand, Luis Vargas, president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Amazonía (Confeniae), emphasized that the natives ' do not want oil in Yasuní ' and that is the reason for its request to Lula. he National Park Yasuní, of 680,000 hectares, is the greater and important area protected of Ecuador and lodges 621 catalogued species of birds, 173 of mammals, eleven of amphibians, 107 of reptiles and 385 of fish. The flora of the park includes 1,247 species known dicotiledóneas angiospermaes and 251 of monocotiledóneas angiospermaes, in addition to 77 species of ferns. Nanquino noticed that, if in five days the Government of Alfredo Palace does not respond to requests of huaoranis, they could ' occupy wells and kidnap to the representatives of Petrobras to demand that retiren'.
Macas, that refused to label those warnings of ' ultimátum', said that the Government must listen to ' seriamenté very and with ' sensibilidad' the request of huaoranis.
The indigenous deputy Jorge Guamán, second vice-president of the Parliament, wrote down on the other hand that is due to exhaust all the possibilities of dialogue and it was arranged to make of connection to canalize the dialogue with huaoranis.
The natives ask the Government who looks for alternative forms of energy and development, that do not destroy the life of their nationalities nor the existing wealth in the territory. Ecuador: Indígenas piden a Lula que saque a Petrobras del Parque Yasuní
Tras marchas, manifestaciones y cartas entregadas en Quito.
Los indígenas huaoranis de la Amazonía ecuatoriana pidieron hoy al presidente de Brasil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, que retire a la estatal Petrobras del Parque Nacional Yasuní, una de las reservas naturales más importantes de Sudamérica.
Ataviados con sus trajes típicos hechos de cortezas de árboles, collares, plumas y portando lanzas, los indígenas recorrieron varias calles de Quito antes de llegar al Parlamento, donde pidieron a los legisladores apoyo para evitar la destrucción de la Amazonía.
Luis Macas, presidente de la Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas de Ecuador (Conaie), dijo a EFE que apoyan la decisión de los huaoranis, que llegaron el fin de semana a Quito y exigen una moratoria de diez años para la explotación petrolera en la Amazonía.
Por su parte, Luis Vargas, presidente de la Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas de la Amazonía (Confeniae), puntualizó que los indígenas 'no quieren más petroleras en Yasuní' y ese es el motivo de su petición a Lula.
El Parque Nacional Yasuní, de 680.000 hectáreas, es el área protegida más grande e importante de Ecuador y alberga 621 especies catalogadas de aves, 173 de mamíferos, once de anfibios, 107 de reptiles y 385 de peces.
La flora del parque incluye 1.247 especies conocidas de angiospermas dicotiledóneas y 251 de angiospermas monocotiledóneas, además de 77 especies de helechos.
'Esperamos que el Gobierno sea sensible y acceda a dialogar con los indígenas que reclaman sus derechos', dijo Vargas a EFE al asegurar que los huaoranis rechazan un convenio suscrito por un ex líder de su nacionalidad con la petrolera estatal brasileña Petrobras.
Gilberto Nanquino, uno de los coordinadores de la protesta en Quito, aseguró a EFE que el ex líder Armando Boya suscribió un acuerdo con Petrobras sin consultar al pueblo, por lo que desconocen el convenio e insisten en la salida de la empresa del 'Bloque 31'.
Rodeado de mujeres huaoranis que no cesaban de cantar, uno de los indígenas, Enkeri Eguenguime, de 40 años, con el torso desnudo, la cara pintada y con coloridos collares hechos con semillas de la Amazonía, dijo que traen 'la voz de la selva' a Quito, para recordar al Gobierno que los indígenas han cuidado la selva durante siglos.
No obstante, añadió que, con el ingreso de las petroleras, han llegado colonos y madereros que han dañado la Amazonía, el mayor pulmón verde del mundo.
Nanquino advirtió que, si en cinco días el Gobierno de Alfredo Palacio no responde a las peticiones de los huaoranis, podrían 'ocupar los pozos y secuestrar a los representantes de Petrobras para exigir que se retiren'.
Macas, que se negó a tildar esas advertencias de 'ultimátum', dijo que el Gobierno debe escuchar 'muy seriamente' y con 'sensibilidad' la petición de los huaoranis.
El diputado indígena Jorge Guamán, segundo vicepresidente del Parlamento, anotó por su parte que se deben agotar todas las posibilidades de diálogo y se mostró dispuesto a hacer de enlace para canalizar el diálogo con los huaoranis.
Los indígenas piden al Gobierno que busque formas alternativas de energía y desarrollo, que no destruyan la vida de sus nacionalidades ni la riqueza existente en el territorio.
Exigen, además, que el Gobierno realice, junto con las comunidades huaoranis y expertos internacionales independientes de las petroleras, una auditoría 'transparente' del impacto social y ambiental de las petroleras en la Amazonía.
Asimismo, reclaman que se invite al Relator Especial de Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos y Libertades Fundamentales de las Nacionalidades Indígenas a visitar Ecuador para conocer su realidad.
Blandiendo constantemente sus lanzas y sin cesar en su monótono canto, los huaoranis recordaron al Gobierno que, con esas armas, sus antepasados defendieron sus territorios y la supervivencia de las comunidades, e insistieron en que, si no hay control por parte de las autoridades, los huaoranis lo impondremos 'a nuestra manera'.
