The prospect of a road extending to Obe is particularly troubling since this area is within or at the edge of the Intangible Zone (the actual boundary of the Intangible Zone is currently in dispute). The Intangible Zone was created in 1999 as a means of protecting the Huaorani tribes living in voluntary isolation: the Tagaeri and Taromenane. Oil activities are prohibited within the Intangible Zone.
